The session will share how UTRGV's B3 Institute is committed to transforming the RGV into a bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate university. The B3 Institute employs a multi-pronged strategy that engages students, faculty, administrators, and the community at large to enact change. The Institute coordinates the work of three principal centers/offices that work collaboratively in pursuit of the vision  and mission to build a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) that is responsive to the population it serves.

The Center for Mexican American Studies (CMAS) is programming a research center that works with students, faculty and members from the community to integrate culturally relevant and culturally appropriate pedagogies into curricular, research, and community engagement work. CMAS forges close partnerships with local schools, community based organizations, and media platforms to illuminate the university community and the public at large about issues related to the RGV.

The Center for Bilingual Studies (CBS) is a programming and research center that focuses on understanding bilingualism and bilingual education through a range of lines of inquiry. The Center has forged partnerships between UTRGV and RGV schools, while leading an exploratory conversation about possible new partnerships for developing culturally relevant pedagogies and enriching bilingual education practices across the RGV at all levels.

The Translation and Interpreting Office (T&IO)translates all UTRGV institutional material, provides writing, editing, and proofing services in Spanish, and interpreting services into both English and Spanish, to the UTRGV community. The office also offers translation services to the community at large. This professional level translation and interpreting work purses the university vision and mission to establish a bilingual, bicultural, and biliterate institution.
